Blog Assignment 7: Privacy Scavenger Hunt

Senator Rockefeller Questions Whisper About Privacy Practices

There is an app called "Whisper App" where people can share their thoughts with the world and was labeled as the "safest place in the internet". It turns out that was all a lie these people can actually locate the exact place where the person who shared his/her thoughts is. Even if the user had requested not to be located. Even going as far as to setting up a place in the Philippines to review user when in fact in the privacy policy it had said all information was stored in the United States. This just shows that a person cant trust anybody and any franchise even if they guarantee that the information will stay private.

EPIC Recommends Research on "Privacy Enhancing Technologies"

EPIC has recommended privacy enhancing technologies and a Consumer Privacy Bill of Rights. An effort to limit the collection of personally identifiable information. Examples being identity theft, security breaches, and financial fraud. The white house has accepted these recommendations. I think it will be great if they can improve their security so that frauds, thefts and security breaches never happen again.

EPIC Obtains New Documents About Lack of Student Privacy Enforcement

EPIC has obtained new documents reveling that parents and students have filed complaints about the misuse of education records. This being rightfully done so because its possibly a violation of the federal student privacy law. Where schools and districts cant disclose a students personal record without the students consent. Personal information should never be disclosed without the consent of the person whatever reason it might be for doesn't matter.
